Review: Earnest & Collective Shoes – Stratford II in Black

Formal shoes are usually expensive. And so you want to buy a pair that is of great quality it usually means higher prices. But recently, I came across a pair that is really affordable yet has great build quality. This is the Stratford II Black shoes by Earnest & Collective. For only S$129, you should definitely consider a purchase.

Earnest & Collective has a whole range of designs for their formal shoes. The one I’ve picked out is the Stratford II (Black). It rocks a rounded toe cap with subtle broguing. It is a really modern yet classy design but here’s what I really liked about the shoes:

Right out of the box, you are greeted with premium packaging. Each shoe is individually packed in a drawstring shoebag and a shoehorn is provided as well. The shoes feels very well constructed, something you’ll get from more expensive shoes out there.

Build quality

The shoe is made with full grain calf leather. Hence, you can expect them to be more durable and lasting for a long while. And to be very honest, you really have to feel and see a pair in person to be able to be impressed by the quality you’re getting at this price point. The sole however, is a rubber sole but almost all shoes in the S$129 range use rubber soles. Moreover, it really comes down to personal preference. Some people prefer rubber soles over leather. There are pros and cons.

Comfort

This shoe is comfortable. There’s some padding which feels great to walk around with. Also, I’d like to highlight that this pair fits true to size.

Any negatives?

Well, the only gripe I had with this shoe was how thin the laces were. Not sure if this is a design element or not, but it feels like I might have to replace the laces someday.

Should you buy it?

I recommend this shoe. It ticks all the boxes a great formal pair of shoes should have at a great price of S$129. If you’re looking to own your first pair of formal shoes or looking to replace your current one, why not try out a pair from Earnest & Collective?

If you have always been purchasing your shoes from Rad Russel, Aldo, Pedro, etc, then Earnest & Collective is another brand you should look into. If you already own expensive dress shoes then what is S$129 to you to try out a pair?
