So far in 2019, we have seen some changes to SIM-only plans from many telcos – StarHub’s Hello Change, Circles.Life revamping their $28 plan, SingTel’s GOMO, entrant of Giga (by Starhub) and M1’s new 30GB SIM-only plan.
If you do not change your phone very often, then SIM-only contracts are the best mobile plan deal you can get for yourself. The per month cost is way cheaper than those 2-year plans and you get more data for the same cost. Although you will not enjoy subsided phone prices, you are not tied down to any duration so you can change phone any time you want. With peer-to-peer marketplaces such as Carousell, it’s easier cash in your old phone for a new phone anytime.
This post will only look at the base plans of each telco’s SIM-only no-contract plans, starting at $20 and above. We will ignore SingTel’s SIM-only because of its utterly poor offerings and the inception of GOMO.
From the table, you have 3 top picks – GOMO, Giga, and M1’s 30GB SIM-only.
Choosing a winner requires you to know your usage patterns, and choose according. For me, I’d say M1’s 30GB SIM-only plan has the most value amongst the three.
For just S$25, you get a whopping 30GB of data and even enjoy unlimited weekend data and Spotify music streaming that GOMO and Giga fail to offer. M1’s also caters to the large data eaters with their add-ons. For example, $20/month add-on gives you an additional 50GB of data.
With this, the same $25 makes Giga pale in comparison. However, Giga does offer rollover data, which may be important for users who have inconsistent data usage patterns.
And if 20GB a month is actually enough for you, you should consider GOMO as it is the cheapest if the lot at only S$20.
