Version 2 of Amazfit’s flagship GTR and GTS watches were released in November, and now we’re getting new variants of Amazfit’s Gen 2 smartwatches to cater towards a cheaper price point. There are two new watches available under the ‘e’ moniker and they are GTR 2e and GTS 2e.
Amazfit GTR 2e & GTS 2e
Both the GTR 2e and GTS 2e share similar feature set, and the only difference between them is the shape of the watch face.
Amazfit GTR 2e features a round face.
Amazfit GTS 2e has a square face.
The 2e variant is the more affordable version of the Gen 2 watches, and they are priced at S$199 vs the S$249 price of the GTR 2 and GTS 2 (now S$229). As part of a launch promo, both the GTR 2e and the GTS 2e are retailing at S$189. With S$40 difference in price, you can expect some features being cut from the 2e series. Let’s find out.
Less premium chassis materials
To cut cost, both the Amazfit GTR 2e and GTS 2e are build with less expensive materials. Both 2e variants have 2.5D curved glass surface with glass vacuum coating and an aluminium alloy body.
Lack of local storage for music
A big feature of the GTR 2 and GTS 2 was that it came with 3GB of local storage so you can add offline song files into the watch, allowing you to exercise without your phone if you like to listen to music. With the cheaper GTR 2e and GTS 2e, there is no local storage so you lose this feature of music storage and playback.
No Wi-Fi
There is no Wi-Fi capabilities on both the GTR 2e and GTS 2e. However, lack of Wi-Fi isn’t a big issues as there is no “App Store” to download things from the internet. The only use case of the Wi-Fi is mainly for data transfer of music files, which is not supported on both watches.
No speaker
There is no speaker on both the GTR 2e and GTS 2e, so you won’t be able to engage in phone calls using the watch alone. Alarms and notifications will only be alerted through vibrations.
Better battery life
With all these features removed, not only do you get a cheaper price, you also enjoy longer battery life. Both the GTR 2e and GTS 2e is rated at 24 days and 14 days respectively of use compared to the 14 days and 7 days respectively that is on the GTR 2 and GTS 2.
Temperature measurement
There is a new feature that is only available of both the GTR 2e and GTS 2e, and that is temperature measurement. The temperature measurement tool allows you to measure the surrounding temperature that you are in. Note that it does not measure body temperature.
