Before you make an assumption from the naming, the new Sound Blaster Katana V2X is not an upgrade to the Sound Blaster Katana V2 launched last year. Instead, the new Sound Blaster Katana V2X was designed to suit users with smaller spaces for their gaming set-ups, and is also more affordable than the V2. The new Sound Blaster Katana V2X retails for S$419, S$60 less than the V2.
What’s different?
Where the Sound Blaster Katana V2X sheds in size is in the subwoofer department. The new subwoofer is 40% smaller than its predecessor. But being smaller also leads to slightly lesser power. The peak power output is now at 180W vs the 252W peak of the V2.
Main features
The main soundbar of the V2X is the same as the V2, so you can expect the familiar sound signature of the Katana soundbar, offering hi-fidelity multichannel audio via the tri-amplified Xamp technology, where Creative’s multi-core DSP controller powers the tweeters, mid-range and subwoofer drivers individually. There is also Creative’s flagship Super X-Fi Headphone Holography technology included.
Being a gaming focused soundbar, there are special gaming audio modes such as SXFI BATTLE Mode for enhancing in-battle audio cues, and Scout Mode for better sound detection of your opponents. Sound Blaster Katana V2X also provides a cinematic experience for movie watching as it has an integrated Dolby Audio decoder.
Personalisation is another feature of the Sound Blaster Katana V2X once you connect it to the Creative app. You can customize the audio via the Acoustic Engine suite and choose your preferred RGB illumination modes. These settings can be saved as customized profiles on either the app or the programmable buttons on the remote control.
There are various connectivity options to choose from, including HDMI ARC and optical ports, wireless Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C port for USB audio support, 3.5mm AUX-in and SXFI-out for certified Super X-Fi products. This versatile soundbar is compatible with desktops and consoles alike, including PC, Mac, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
