Build quality and design
The shape of the MUVO Go is very reminiscent to that of the JBL Flip series or the UE Boom for that matter, which is a tower like shape that you place horizontally or vertically. MUVO Go is mainly made from a matte plastic with what seems like hard fabric covering the drivers. The bass radiators are exposed at the sides with the ‘Creative’ branding.
Creative MUVO Go feels well-built despite its lightweight 570g, and it has a nice size that is easy to carry around. The main media buttons feel nice and responsive when pressed. There is lanyard attached at one end of the speaker. You can remove the lanyard if you are not a fan of having one on your speaker.
Like the MUVO Play, the MUVO Go is IPX7 waterproof which means it can handle water splashes and can even be submerged in water. So this makes it a handy speaker to bring for your water activities.
Ports and controls
The MUVO Go is purely designed to be used wirelessly via Bluetooth. Unlike its sibling MUVO Play, the MUVO Go no longer has a 3.5mm audio jack. This is likely to make the speaker more resilient in its waterproof capabilities. While placed horizontally, the media buttons of play/pause, volume, and tracks navigation are easy to access.
Battery life and connectivity
Creative MUVO Go is rated to last 18 hours of playtime on a full charge, which is almost twice as long as its smaller sibling MUVO Play. Charging the MUVO Go is via USB-C which is located at the back of the speaker next to the power button.
MUVO Go is purely a Bluetooth only speaker, and it equipped with the latest Bluetooth 5.3 technology. During my time of testing, I did not encounter any lag or drops from my audio source even when I was in another room. MUVO Go has a Wireless Stereo Link feature that allows you to pair two MUVO Go together and use it like a true stereo experience, while increasing the overall volume of your media playback. Do note that you do not have to use an app to setup the wireless stereo link.
Sound quality
Do note that even though Creative MUVO Go is shaped like a 360º speaker, the audio is only produced in one direction. Smaller speakers tend to sound brighter without much in the bass department. Thankfully, the MUVO Go still retains some impact in the low end for enjoyable bass reproduction. Midrange has sufficient presence in the overall mix, and treble is bright sounding without being too sibilant.
The overall tuning of the MUVO Go leans towards a V-shape one, which plays well with modern pop songs. As far as volume goes, MUVO Go is able fill a bedroom without sounding too thin, and there wasn’t much distortion heard at its max volume.
Conclusion
Creative MUVO Go is largely simple in its offerings as it operates strictly as Bluetooth speaker with the ability to link to another for a true stereo sound. At S$119, it’s an affordable option to consider for a portable speaker with IPX7 waterproof rating that produces powerful sound with enjoyable bass without sacrificing clarity.
