Review: Pulsar Supergrip – Grip tape for gaming mice

The Pulsar Supergrip is Pulsar’s grip tape that promises superior performance. There are currently only two variations of Supergrip which you can purchase at the moment – (1) Un-cut, and (2) Pre-cut. Both retail for US$9.95.

Unboxing

In the box, you’ll find the following:

Just looking at the image above, it’s more value for money to get the un-cut Supergrip as there is more volume of grip tape (13cm * 9cm). You can easily download and print grip templates from Reddit. So if you prefer having custom cut tapes applied on your mouse, I’d recommended getting the un-cut variant.

It would have been nice if the Pre-cut variant had two more columns of grip tape. I’d recommended going for the Pre-cut only if you are considering putting some on your keycaps or are used to having small pieces of tape on your mouse.

Feel and durability

Pulsar says that Supergrip is a special liquid rubber. To me, the texture of Pulsar Supergrip is quite reminiscent of tapes used on racket sports. Despite not having any patterns and texture to the tape, Pulsar Supergrip is still able to deliver a “sticky” feeling when in contact with my finger. When I try to drag my finger across from one end of the tape to the other, it feels like my finger is getting held on to by the tape. The “stickiness” of Pulsar Supergrip is truly unlike any of the grip tapes that I’ve used before (eg. Hotline Games, BTL).

As for durability, Pulsar Supergrip still feels as sticky and grippy after a few days of use. I can’t conclude how it’ll be in a couple of months time, but wiping the surface with wet tissues didn’t seem to affect its stickiness. Removing the Supergrip after sticking on to the Pulsar X2 didn’t leave any residue and was easy to remove.

Performance

Pulsar Supergrip is just 0.5mm, making it one of the thinnest grip tapes I have used. Thickness of grip tapes are usually overlooked, but I do appreciate how thin Supergrip is as it helps to keep to mouse as close to its original size even when you apply the grip tape. Supergrip is also quite light as well so it will likely only add at most a gram or so to your overall mouse weight.

The true test of any grip tape is when your hand starts to sweat. Some grip tape feel grippy when I first touch them, but once there is sweat then the tape starts to lose its grip. Thankfully, Supergrip still retains its stickiness even when my hand starts to build up sweat. It’s quite an incredible feeling that my finger retains a firm grip on the mouse even with a sweaty hand.

The “stickiness” from Supergrip helps to make me feel more locked in with the mouse, giving me more control of it when gaming. This translates to confidence of knowing that my finger won’t lose its grip when I’m in the middle of hitting my shots.

Conclusion

Pulsar has truly set a new standard for grip tape with their Supergrip, providing a grippy locked in feel even when my hand is sweaty. It should be safe to assume that Pulsar will start selling custom-cut Supergrip for its mice and also other brands as well. If your hands start to sweat when you’re gaming, the Pulsar Supergrip is a grip tape you should definitely try as the grip it provides is truly remarkable.
