Review: OneAdaptr OneWorld100 – International Adapter with 100W USB-C GaN charger

It’s the season of travelling now, and when you’re packing your bags there is usually one essential item that you’ll bring along – a travel plug adapter. The OneAdaptr OneWorld100 is essentially a travel plug adapter, but it comes with 4 USB ports on it so you can use it as an all-in-one power adapter when travelling. The OneAdaptr OneWorld100 retails for S$199 at Synced.

Unboxing

In the box, you’ll find the following:

  • OneAdaptr OneWorld100
  • Carrying pouch
  • User manual

Build quality and design

OneAdaptr OneWorld100 is surprisingly small in size, with a height that is just slightly taller than a credit card, measuring 54.5mm * 69.0mm * 67.0 mm. GaN technology is what makes this compact size possible. It weights about 266 grams, which is about the average of typical power adapters. if you are not familiar with GaN, it is basically short for Gallium nitride. GaN produces less heat, allowing manufacturers to put components can be closer together, thus reducing the overall size of the charger.

Build quality of the OneWorld100 is good. The chassis is mainly made from plastic which has a matte finish. Some rattling is heard when shaking it but is probably due to the plastic plug adaptors, once the EU adaptor is fully extended you don’t hear any more rattling. The plastic latch points doing the push/pull of the plug adaptors does a good job at keeping the plug locked in. There is a carrying pouch included, but I’d nitpick and say that it would be nicer if the pouch is slightly padded.

Port selection

Apart from the universal AC outlet located at the front which delivers 10A max (2500W max), there are another four USB ports located on the bottom. They deliver the following wattages depending on how many are used at the same time:

Single-port usage

  1. USB-C: 100W Max (5V/3A, 9V/3A, 15V/3A, 20V/5A)
  2. USB-C: 100W Max (5V/3A, 9V/3A, 15V/3A, 20V/5A)
  3. USB-A: 18W Max (5V/3A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A)
  4. USB-A: 18W Max (5V/3A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A)

Multi-port usage

USB-C x2

  • USB-C: 65W Max (5V/3A, 9V/3A, 15V/3A, 20V/3.25A)
  • USB-C: 35W Max (5V/3A, 9V/3A, 15V/2.33A, 20V/1.75A)

USB-C x2 + USB-A x1

  • USB-C: 65W Max (5V/3A, 9V/3A, 15V/3A, 20V/3.25A)
  • USB-C: 20W Max (5V/3A, 9V/2.2A, 12V/1.67A)
  • USB-A: 18W Max (5V/3A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A)

All ports

  • USB-C: 65W Max (5V/3A, 9V/3A, 15V/3A, 20V/3.25A)
  • USB-C: 20W Max (5V/3A, 9V/2.2A, 12V/1.67A)
  • USB-A: 15W Max (5V/3A)

I like how OneAdaptr printed the above details on the OneWorld100 itself, so you can always refer to it to know what power supply you are receiving based on your permutation of usage. It is amazing that you can get to output 100W from a power adapter of this size. I charged my MacBook Pro with the OneWorld100, and it was able to deliver 100W.

User experience

Before having the OneAdaptr OneWorld100, my packing list for essential electronics charging will look something like this:

  • Surge protector (power extension strip)
  • 18W USB-C power adapter
  • 87W MacBook power adapter
  • USB-C cable
  • Lighting cable

With the OneAdaptr OneWorld100, I don’t have to bring the power adapters for my smartphone and laptop anymore. This also means two less things that I have to remove from my desk and put them back when I return to Singapore. I can simply take the OneAdaptr OneWorld100 and the relevant cables that I need. Having a total of two USB-C and two USB-A makes it convenient if you’re travelling as a couple as there is just enough of each port for each person.

While charging my MacBook Pro and iPhone simultaneously, the OneAdaptr OneWorld100 did not feel uncomfortably hot. OneAdaptr is IEC 60884 certified and has enhanced safety measures such as protection for overcurrent, over-temperature, over-voltage, and short-circuit.

The OneAdaptr OneWorld100 reminds me of the Ugreen 65W GaN (CD296), but OneWorld100 is in a more compact and travel-friendly package as all the plug adapters are built in. Besides, you can get more power from the OneWorld100 (100W vs 65W).

Conclusion

At S$199, it can be a quite a sum to pay for convenience when travelling. But if you see the OneWorld100 as a typical GaN power adapter, then the price doesn’t seem too high. The OneAdaptr OneWorld100 is essentially a GaN power adapter with the travel plug adaptors built into it. What I really like about the OneAdaptr OneWorld100 is it size. I’ve used other GaN power adapters before, but none has felt as compact as the OneAdaptr OneWorld100, since its plugs are retractable, making it ever more compact and travel-friendly.
