ASUS refreshes their ZenBook S13 with an even smaller footprint

Remember the ZenBook S13 UX391? It had the ErgoLift hinge with a 13.3″ display, and the audio jack was found on the screen part of the laptop. Here’s some pictures to refresh your memory:

At CES 2019, ASUS announces an update to their Zenbook S13 line with the new S13 UX392. Hinging on the design success of their ZenBook UX333, UX444 and UX555 series, ASUS managed to slim the bezels even more and squeeze in a large 13.9″ screen in a 13″ laptop body. The bezels of the UX392 measures at only 2.5mm, which is what ASUS is calling their NanoEdge display.

As you can notice by now, the top of screen has this reverse notch looking thing which houses the webcam. It’s a new design change, probably to slim the top bezel. But this somehow works as a handle to lift easily open the laptop. And yes, you can open the laptop with just one finger.

In fact, it is so small that is is even 12.5% smaller than the last year’s 14″ ZenBook 3 Deluxe. The UX392 is only 1.1kg and 12.9mm thin. And with all that, ASUS even manages to pack a discrete graphic card – NVIDIA MX150. ErgoLift is again present on the UX392, which is also a very smart way of hiding the bottom bezel.

The S13 UX392 will have the new Whiskey Lake CPUs, with the choice of i5-8265U or i7-8565U processor. RAM can be configured up to 16GB while storage can be maxed out to 1TB of PCle SSD.

As for ports, you have two USB-C Gen 2 (take not this is not Thunderbolt 3) and one USB-A 3.1 port. You also have a microSD card reader and the 3.5mm audio jack. Battery is rated at 50Wh with up to 15 hours battery life and fast charging is supported through the USB-C port. ASUS claims 60% fast charging in just 49 minutes.

Windows Hello is supported. Or you could choose to rely on the fingerprint sensor built into the touchpad.

ASUS has made an amazing laptop with both power and portability. Also I think it has possibly one of the nicest laptop design around with its NanoEdge display (thin bezels on all four sides). Dell’s so called InfinityEdge display seriously can’t fight NanoEdge display when the XPS 13 still has that ugly bottom chin. I’m still waiting for the day ASUS goes with a smooth matte finish on the top instead of their traditional concentric circle design (sorry still not a fan of that).
