Portable projectors have become very popular recently because of the ease of video streaming and sharing content from our phones. Many brands such as Anker, Sony, Canon, and ASUS have launched their own models of portable projectors. Though the idea of portable projectors may seem fancy, they are may not offer the best value for your money given that most portable projectors are only able to deliver from 480p to 720p of maximum resolution. And you paying close to $500 for that. Is there a 1080p one?
Enter the PIQO Pocket Projector. It’s a portable projector crowd funded on Indiegogo with a spec sheet that is really enticing at a price point that is even more attractive compared to the competition. Let’s get into they key details about this exciting product.
To start, let me show show you a quick summary of the spec sheet.
Features
Size
Let’s talk size first. PIQO markets itself as a pocket projector, and it really is small. The cube form factor with around 5.7cm on each size makes it a really small and portable device to bring it around anywhere you go.
Android 7 platform
PIQO runs on Android 7 OS, that makes it a Smart projector. You can install apps from the Google Play Store such as Netflix or YouTube. So just bringing this pocket projector alone, you’re able to start streaming your favourites TV shows or movies. And with 16GB of internal storage, you can download them offline and watch it wherever you go.
Connectivity Options
PIQO offers your typical your type plug and play connectivity such as HDMI, USB-A input and headphone jack. But PIQO does more by offering wireless connectivity ranging from Bluetooth, screen mirroring for Android, and even AirPlay for Apple users.
Battery life
PIQO claims that video playback is rated at 5 hours, while music playback is 50 hours. This means you can watch an average of 2 movies per full charge which is pretty good.
1080p Full HD video playback
Now this is where PIQO stands out. Most of the competition out there (even those priced higher) can only offer up to 720p HD video, which doesn’t seem to be worth it for something you pay $500+ for. PIQO is able play up to 1080p Full HD video which is really great to know you’re getting more for less money.
Large projector display size
Again, another stand out feature of the PIQO. PIQO claims it has a max display size of 240″, which is huge and beats many of the competition too. 240″ will easily fill most walls, allowing you to have a cinema-like experience right at the comfort of your room.
Bright display
PIQO is able to deliver 200 ANSI Lumens. Once again, if you compare to competition (which offers and average of 100 ANSI lumens), PIQO wins. So if your room won’t get super dark, the bright display of PIQO means that you will still be able to see your projection clearly.
Other features
PIQO also supports fast charging – 15 mins of charge gives you 1 hour of video playback. There is keystone angle correction, so your projection is a perfect shape at weird angles. And there’s built in speakers which are apparently engineered by Harman Kardon and Bose engineers.
Should you pre-order?
Specs wise, this projector certainly looks like an a game-changer for the portable projector market. It has so many amazing features that I can’t wait to test them out. If you’ve always wanted to own a pocket projector, I think PIQO is product you should consider. Available on Indiegogo at US$369, go ahead and pre-order PIQO, which is expected to ship from May 2019 onwards!
PIQO has also done their own comparison, so check this out:

However, I have a very bad feeling about these guys though…
Hey Brad, I still have not received my projector as well. I guess we can only wait now and hopefully they’ll ship soon! When it comes, the product will speak for itself. I backed a Boundary Supply bag on Kickstarter once and the shipping was delayed for very long, but luckily it was still delivered at the end. Hope it’s the same for Piqo!
Sad hey?
The alarming thing is Piqo is still advertising a May 2019 shopping date on their website.
That’s got to be illegal !!!! Deceptive and misleading advertising etc.
FULL TWO MONTHS LATER AND STILL NOT GOT A SINGLE EMAIL TO TELL ME WHEN IT SHIPPING MY 2 X Piqo projects plus accessories!~
The last personal email I got back from support was in early June telling me, no promising me it will be definitely shipping Mid July 2019.
THESE GUYS ARE SCAM !!! THEY TAKE YOU MONEY AND DO NOTHING. THEY ALL SHOULD BE LOCKED UP!
