DJI has released its first ever action camera under the Osmo line, the Osmo Action.
The Osmo Action comes with a 12MP 1/2.3″ CMOS sensor with a field of view of 145° at f/2.8. Video recording is up to 4K 60fps at 100Mbps, 4K HDR video (30fps max) and their electronic image stabilisation (EIS) called RockSteady. It is also waterproof up to 11 metres. Other features include dustproof, shockproof up to 5ft, microSD memory card slot, voice control, custom exposure settings, and a 1,300mAh battery. Full specs can be found here.
Osmo Action comes some nifty features such as Custom Mode, Quick Switch, SnapShot. Custom Mode which lets you store, list, and select frequently used shooting modes and exposure settings. And on the side of the Osmo Action, you have a Quick Switch (QS) button which ensures modes and settings are easily and quickly accessible. It has multiple capabilities including options that let you flip between the front and back screen, change modes, and select custom settings. SnapShot allows you to the shutter button to power on and begin recording in under two seconds, means that you never miss a moment of action.
The Osmo Action ships with Action OS can be used in conjunction with the DJI Mimo App.
There are a few key differences between the Osmo Action and the GoPro Hero 7.
Firstly, the Osmo Action (unlike the Hero 7) has two screens. The front display is 1.4″ while the rear has 2.25″ screen. Having a front display means that you’re better able to compose your shots, a very handy addition!
Secondly, the Osmo Action has a slightly tighter FOV than the Hero 7 as you can see below:
Lastly, the Osmo Action is cheaper than the Hero 7. It starts at USD$369, same price as the Osmo Pocket. This means that the Osmo Action should be selling in Singapore at around S$519 compared to Hero 7’s price of S$595.
