Review: ErgoTune Supreme V2 Ergonomic Chair

Check out the new ErgoTune Supreme V3!

If you have heard of ErgoEdge, the company that sells the sit-stand AmpDesk, then you may have heard of ErgoTune – a new brand under ErgoEdge which specialises in ergonomic chairs. Currently, ErgoTune offer two models – Classic, and Supreme. We will looking at the ErgoTune Supreme. The ErgoTune Supreme retails for S$599, and you can apply the discount code 22+TECHJIO for S$30 off!

Build quality and design

The ErgoTune Supreme V2 has two colours to choose from – (1) Coral Red, or (2) Charcoal Black. The unit I have is the Charcoal Black colour. ErgoTune Supreme V2 has a more boxy design to it compared to other ergonomic office chairs, but it still looks and feels professional, and would definitely blend in well in any home office setup.

The frame of ErgoTune Supreme V2 is mainly built using high quality plastic and aluminium as the wheel base. The chair does slightly rattle when I shake it, but once you sit on it, the chair does not rattle anymore. The upholstery is a hybrid mix between fabric and polyester, which is soft to the touch and does not feel cheap. The wheels are 60mm PU casters, which roll around pretty smoothly and quietly on my parquet flooring. For comparison, the wheels are quieter than those of Martiangear Supernova.

Warranty

ErgoTune Supreme V2 comes with a standard warranty of up to 8 years. And you can even extend it to up to 12 years if you share a photo/video of your ErgoTune chair on social media. Different parts of the chair have different warranty lengths, which you can find below:

Parts coveredStandard warrantyExtended warranty
Skeletal frame, Aluminium frame, Wheelbase, and Polyamide frame8 years12 years
Lumbar support, Central mechanism hub, Armrest mechanism, Castor mechanism4 years8 years

If you do manage to extend your warranty, every component of your ErgoTune Supreme V2 chair will at least be covered 8 years – which is really long and should offer a sense of security for a big ticket purchase.

Features

Unlike gaming chairs such as Secretlab, the ErgoTune Supreme V2 has a different look and feel to it. It may seem like a typical office chair, but it has many small quirks that make the chair customisable for better personalised comfort.

DuraWeave hybrid mesh upholstery

The upholstery used on the ErgoTune Supreme V2 is a hybrid blend of fabric and polyester which ErgoTune calls the DuraWeave. The DuraWeave mesh is pretty comfortable to sit on even when wearing home-wear such as shorts, and won’t leave imprints on your skin.

It isn’t like typical mesh chairs which can feel a little firm on pressure. The DuraWeave mesh offers soft fabric touch whilst retaining the flexibility of a mesh chair. Check out the video below to get a sense of the feel of the DuraWeave:

ATLAS – Auto Tuning Lumbar Area Support

The bulge at the lumbar area is ATLAS, ie. the lumbar support. The ATLAS is designed to wrap itself snug against your spine’s natural C-shape curve. To get the best out of the ATLAS, you can adjust the backrest height so that the ATLAS is positioned nicely against to your lumbar. The tension of the ATLAS is then adjusted automatically based on the pressure it receives when you’re sitting upright or leaning back.

TrueTilt

TrueTilt refers to the ability set the recline angle of the chair and tension of the it. However, do note that TrueTilt isn’t like the multi-tilt mechanism that are on gaming chairs such as APOL Sphinx or Martiangear Supernova. If you decide to lock in a recline angle, you lose the ability to bop back and forth using the tension setting.

Using the circular knob on the left, there are four defined angles of recline that you can lock in. The knob on the right controls the tension of the recline and there are also four settings which you can choose from. At the weakest setting, the tension is enough to lean back and relax without exerting much force.

TriTune 3D support headrest

TriTune is the 3D headrest which can be adjusted in three directions: (1) up/down – height, (2) forward/backward – depth, and (3) angle. Height of headrest has 11 points of adjustments, while depth has 3 points of adjustments. Height and depth of the headrest can be locked in place, but the angle cannot be locked.

*NEW* TriTune 3D support headrest (coming Jul – Aug 2021)

ErgoTune is actually planning on upgrading the TriTune 3D headrest with a new version which will be available sometime in July – August 2021. But that does not mean you have to wait till July to purchase ErgoTune Supreme V2 so you can get the new headrest. In fact, you can purchase it now and request for a free swap to the upgraded headrest once stocks for it arrives in July – August 2021! Customers who have purchased an ErgoTune Supreme V2 from 1 March 2021 are also eligible for the free exchange.

But what’s with the new upgraded TriTune headrest? The upgraded headset was specially designed so that individuals who are of a shorter built can get better support with the headrest. You can still adjust the headrest in the three directions as aforementioned.

I had the chance to compare both versions of the headrest (new was a prototype), and the prototype upgraded headrest is indeed better and more versatile. The upgraded headrest has a larger design footprint and is much easier to install on the ErgoTune Supreme V2. The upgraded headrest has track that can move up and down the headrest stand. To adjust the depth, you now have to press down on a button, which can be a little troublesome if you want to adjust it while sitting on the chair.

Personally, I use headrests more as a support for my neck rather than my head. When using the old headrest, I was hoping that the height could be adjusted lower even more so I could get better support for my neck. With the upgraded headrest, I can now adjust the height of the headrest along the track of the headrest stand as shown below. This allows for greater range of height, allowing me to even position the headrest below the top of the chair. This means that shorter individuals can still enjoy ample support for their neck or head.

GyroBrace 5D armrest

The armrest on the ErgoTune Supreme is what ErgoTune calls GyroBrace, and it is unlike regular 4D armrests we see on gaming chairs. The 5D GyroBrace armrests adjust quite differently from regular 4D armrests. To adjust the distance between both armrest and the angle which it is pointed towards, the mechanics is still quite similar whereby you push the armrest outwards. But if you want to adjust the armrest to go forward/backward, it is not as straightforward as sliding it front and back. Instead, you adjust the armrests via a swivel motion. You can check out the video demo below for a better understanding:

As the armrests are able to rotate in a swivel, you can actually setup some really wild looking armrest positions. I find the parallel armrest position (image below) to be surprisingly handy when I’m using my phone. However, when I’m leaning back, the armrest is unable to swivel backwards so my elbows are no longer as well supported.

I like that the armrest have a decent amount of cushioning on them which makes for a comfortable resting surface for my elbows. However, I do find the shape of the armrest to be a little weird, as the back of the armrest (where my elbows tend to rest on) has a smaller surface area compared to the front. I would have preferred it to have the same surface area so my elbows would have more surface area to rest on. Check out the short video below:

The armrests does not have a lock feature so if you accidentally apply some force on the armrest, it will move out of its position. That being said, it is not that easy to shift the armrest out of its position. You’d have to make a deliberate effort to shift it out of place. Check out the short video below:

Adjustable backrest and seat depth

As aforementioned, the height of the backrest is adjustable such that the lumbar support of the ErgoTune Supreme V2 can be personalised to fit each individual based on your their preference.

The seat depth of the ErgoTune Supreme V2 is also adjustable. If you’re tall, you will be able to push the seat out further so that your thighs can rest comfortably. For me at 172cm, I do not actually need to extend the seat depth.

Comfort and usage

I really like how customisable the ErgoTune Supreme V2 such that anyone is able setup the chair to his/her liking. As the backrest height and seat depth is adjustable, whether you’re short or tall, I believe that there is an adjustment setting that can fit your body shape.

ErgoTune Supreme V2 is comfortable to sit on for many hours particularly because of it being a mesh based chair. There is greater airflow and you won’t feel heat being trapped. I particularly like that there is fabric infused in the mesh as it does provide additional comfort compared to regular mesh which can feel stiff after sitting for long hours.

Due to the fabric mesh upholstery, the seat base is not overly firm and strikes a good balance of tension and softness. The seat base is reasonably wide such that you can sit cross legged too. The lumbar support (ie. ATLAS) is also another feature that I like. The ATLAS cradles my lumbar well and the tension pressing against by back is just right – not too protruding nor too loose.

The upgraded headrest is a great move on ErgoTune’s part and it will make the ErgoTune Supreme V2 suitable for even more individuals of varying heights. I like the extended range of height the new headrest provides, so whether I want for it to support my neck or my head, I am able to adjust it to my liking.

There are some places ErgoTune could make improvements on, such as giving the armrests the ability to lock in place and allowing the length to extend backwards more. I also find that the edge of the seat could be designed with a rounder contour such that it rolls off the thighs for better comfort. There is a cushion at the edge of the seat which I can feel my thigh resting against. It’s noticeable but not uncomfortable.

Conclusion

Ergotune made sure that the different elements of the Ergotune Supreme V2 is highly customisable so that whatever your body type, you’re bound to get a comfortable sitting experience.
