Review: ErgoTune Supreme V3 Ergonomic Chair

Late 2020, ErgoTune introduced V2 of their Supreme chair and it was very popular due to the customizations you can do to personalize your very own sitting experience. A year and half later, the new iteration – ErgoTune Supreme V3 is now available, featuring improvements to the headrest, lumbar support, and also providing support for different height groups. ErgoTune Supreme V3 continues to retail at S$599, and you can apply the discount code 22+TECHJIO for S$30 off!

Build quality and design

There are three colours you can choose for your ErgoTune Supreme V3 – (1) Coral Red, or (2) Charcoal Black, and (3) Aqua Blue. The unit I have is the Aqua Blue colour, which is a light and slightly turquoise blue colour, which I think will create a fun look in workplaces. The design of the ErgoTune Supreme V3 is very much unchanged from its V2, but if you’re sharp enough, you’ll probably noticed that the backrest looks a little different.

ErgoTune Supreme V3

ErgoTune Supreme V3 retains its boxy design and feels a little more sturdy compared to the V2. As for material used, the frame is made from aluminium alloy, while the wheels are 60mm PU-coated that rolls smoothly on both parquet and carpet. While you’re on the chair, the rolling is rather quiet, but if you’re moving the chair from place to place you may hear some slight rattle of parts. Quality wise is pretty good, apart from some parts where the edges feel a little rough at the edges.

Warranty

ErgoTune Supreme V3 comes with a standard warranty of up to 8 years. And you can even extend it to up to 12 years if you share a photo/video of your ErgoTune chair on social media. Different parts of the chair have different warranty lengths, which you can find below:

Parts coveredStandard warrantyExtended warranty
Skeletal frame, Aluminium frame, Wheelbase, and Polyamide frame8 years12 years
Lumbar support, Central mechanism hub, Armrest mechanism, Castor mechanism4 years8 years

If you do manage to extend your warranty, every component of your ErgoTune Supreme V3 chair will at least be covered 8 years – so worst case scenario you’re paying S$75 a year for this chair.

Customisable comfort

If you’ve read the V2 review then you should be familiar with how the customisable the V2 is, but let’s go through all the features of the new ErgoTune Supreme V3 again just in case you’re not acquainted. Unlike gaming chairs such as Secretlab, ergonomic chairs have more adjustable features which are listed below.

DuraWeave hybrid mesh upholstery

Upholstery of a chair is the biggest factor of comfort. I’m generally drawn towards fabric because of how comfortable it feels on skin, though it can get a little warm after sitting for extended periods. Mesh is great at keeping you cool, but it may not feel as comfortable as fabric.

ErgoTune somehow managed bridge the gap between fabric and mesh with their DuraWeave hybrid mesh on the ErgoTune Supreme V3. DuraWeave is a hybrid blend of fabric and polyester. The end product is an upholstery that has resembling comfort of fabric and yet retains the breathability of a mesh. Most of the time, I would wear shorts at home so my bare skin will contact the upholstery, but I am happy to report that the DuraWeave does not leave imprints on my skin, which some mesh chairs do.

Because of the hybrid mix of and mesh, the upholstery produces a soft and flexible material. Check out the video below to get a sense of the feel of the DuraWeave:

Enhanced ATLAS – Auto Tuning Lumbar Area Support

The main upgrade you’re getting in the ErgoTune Supreme V3 compared to V2 is the enhanced ATLAS (ie. lumbar support). Unlike the V2‘s ATLAS which is integrated into the entire backrest of the chair, the enhanced ATLAS features as its own separate lumbar support. The main reason why ErgoTune Supreme V3‘s ATLAS is a separate part of the backrest is to provide more customizability to the support your lower back receives.

At the back of the chair, you’ll find two stick knobs that you can rotate to adjust the tension of the ATLAS. There are 3 levels of tensions – light, medium, and firm. If you prefer more prominent support for your lower back, you can set the tension to firm. But if you prefer a support that adjust gradually, the you opt for the light setting. Check out the video below to get a sense of the customisable tension.

I find the enhanced ATLAS on the ErgoTune Supreme V3 to be good improvement over the V2. The V2‘s lumbar support was already pretty good but the V3 somehow managed to add for personalization to it. There are times where I feel I need more support for my lower back, so having the ability to tighten the tension of the ATLAS is refreshing. Most of the time though, I set the ATLAS on the lightest tension setting to allow the lumbar support to wrap nicely along my spine’s natural C-shape curve. You can check out the below video for a better understanding:

Enhanced TriTune 3D support headrest

ErgoTune Supreme V3‘s enhanced TriTune 3D support headrest is essentially the upgraded headrest on the V2 which debuted around July 2021. I covered the main differences between the new vs old headrest, which are mainly (1) larger surface area, (2) greater height adjustment, and (3) overall ease of use. Let’s recap by bringing up some of images from the V2 review:

Long story short, the enhanced TriTune headrest is great. You can more support for both your neck and head, and the wide variety of height adjustments is useful for short and tall individuals. As seen below, you can even adjust the TriTune headrest to go lower than the top of the backrest, which allows better support for shorter individuals.

Let’s go through the 3D meaning of the TriTune headrest, which means adjustable in three directions: (1) up/down – height, (2) forward/backward – depth, and (3) angle. The height and depth of the headrest can be locked in place, but the angle cannot be locked. You can check out the video below to get a better understanding of the adjustments that you can do:

TrueTilt

TrueTilt is essentially ErgoTune Supreme V3‘s ability to adjust the recline angle and tension when you lean back. As with most ergonomic chairs, TrueTilt isn’t as adjustable as multi-tilt mechanisms you find on gaming chairs. This means that once you lock in a recline angle, you lose the ability to bop back and forth using the tension setting.

The circular knob on the left of the chair allows you to lock in four defined angles of recline. The knob on the right offers four levels of tension on the chair’s recline.

GyroBrace 5D armrest

ErgoTune is what ErgoTune calls the ErgoTune Supreme V3. It is different from 4D armrests on gaming chairs as it allows for more unique range of motions. The GyroBrace armrest doesn’t have the typical adjustment motion of forward/backward and left/right. Because the GyroBrace armrest operates in swivel motion, you cannot do a simple forward/backward adjustment. Instead, you are forced to swivel the entire armrest in front, which is not exactly ideal if you’re seeking to perform a minute adjustment. You can refer to the video below to get a better understanding of the swivel motion of the GyroBrace armrest:

On a positive note, the swivel motion of the GyroBrace armrest allows to freely create varying armrest positions that may come in handy in other scenarios. When reading a book or using my iPad without a desk, I find the parallel armrest to be useful in proving support for my forearms.

There isn’t much change to the GyroBrace as compared to the V2. The shape of the armrest is still a little weird by being asymmetrical. And the cushioning is decently soft enough to provide comfort. Overall, the GyroBrace armrests are good, but I feel that this a department that ErgoTune could look to improve in their future V4. If they are able to follow the cushion and shape of Herman Miller Aeron’s armrests, I think it will be something special. You can check the video below to get a sense of the cushioning on the GyroBrace armrest:

Lastly, one small thing to note is that the armrests does not have a lock feature but I found that it actually takes quite some effort to shift it out of place, so it is a non-issue for me.

Adjustable backrest and seat depth

Like the V2, you can still adjust the height of the backrest so that you can align ATLAS to be in a perfect position to support your lower back. Check out the short video demo below for a better understanding:

The seat depth of the ErgoTune Supreme V3 is also adjustable in order to cater to individuals with different heights. If your legs are long, you would want to extend the seat depth so that your thighs are well supported. Check out the video demo below:

If you’re on the extreme ends of the height spectrum then you may want to wait till May 2022 as ErgoTune is releasing different sizes of the ErgoTune Supreme V3 to be better cater to your size. Below is a rough guide:

  • Petite: 140cm – 159cm
  • Standard: 160cm – 179cm
  • Tall: 180cm – 210cm

Comfort and usage

ErgoTune continues to improve the Supreme chair to make it even more customisable to fit all sorts of height and body shape. The enhanced ATLAS is truly an improvement over its predecessor, which already good to begin with. The ability to adjust the tension of the lumbar support is something you’d have to try in person to feel the different it makes.

ErgoTune Supreme V3 retains the use of DuraWeave hybrid mesh as its main upholstery which offers better comfort over traditional mesh yet retains airflow to keep you cool. I have also found that the edge of the seat is now slightly softer so that it doesn’t create too much pressure on the thighs. The enhanced TriTune headrest continues to emphasize on customizability with its wide range of adjustments allowing you to position it exactly where you head/neck wants it to be.

Overall, the ErgoTune Supreme V3 is a welcome upgrade and a superb ergonomic chair all round. But if I had to nitpick, I’d say that ErgoTune can strive to improve by making (1) armrest to be softer and better shaped, and (2) slightly rounded off seat base for better comfort at the thigh area.

Conclusion

Ergotune Supreme V3 manages to make a good chair even better. The enhanced ATLAS lumbar support brings a new meaning to customizable lumbar support. The DuraWeave upholstery together with all the other customizable feature of the chair allows the Ergotune Supreme V3 to provide a highly personalized and comfortable sitting experience.
