Review: Levoit Core 300S Smart True HEPA Air Purifier

Levoit Core 300S is one of the many air purifiers in Levoit’s Core range. The ‘S’ suffix means the Core 300S is a smart product, and it is positioned to be used fro small to medium sized rooms. The Levoit Core 300S retails for S$269, but you can get $20 off the Levoit Core 300S on Shopee when you use the code LEVOTECH!

Build quality and design

The Levoit Core 300S features a cylindrical design with the bulk of it made from plastic in a matte white finish. The overall size of Levoit Core 300S is quite compact. Measuring at 36cm tall and 22cm wide, you should be able to fit into a typical bedroom in Singapore. Its understated and minimalistic design allows it to blend seamlessly in any house.

The bottom of Levoit Core 300S has four rubber silicon feet to keep it steady on the floor. There is also a cutoff resembling a handle which you can rotate counter-clockwise to remove the bottom intake half to access the HEPA filter. The filter in the Core 300S will be plastic wrapped, so do remember to remove the plastic before using it. I have heard stories of people using their air purifier with the plastic still intact on the filter for months.

The top of the Core 300S houses the LED display that is touch enabled for you to quickly select the different air purification modes. The cable is attached to the Core 300S and is about 2 metres long so it should be sufficient to plug to a power outlet.

Features & Performance

Levoit Core 300S is rated to be used for a maximum space of 538ft² / 50m², and has a clean air delivery rate (CADR) of 141 CFM / 240m³/h. Core 300S uses a 3-stage filtration system – (1) Pre-filter, (2) H13 True HEPA filter, and (3) High-Efficiency Activated Carbon Filter.

  1. Pre-filter traps larger particles such as dust, hair, lint, and pet fur
  2. H13 True HEPA filter captures smaller particles such as fine dust, smoke particles, pollen, and pet dander
  3. High-efficiency activated carbon filter which is dedicated to handle smoke

There are three fan speeds – low, medium, and high. You can also opt for Auto mode which will control the fan speed on its own depending on the air quality measured. Power consumption is quite low at 23W (which is probably at max fan speed).

My nose isn’t very sensitive to dust so I cannot tell the difference personally, but if stats are anything go by, you can track the air quality (PM2.5) via the VeSync app as the Core 300S has AirSight Plus technology. On the onset of using Levoit Core 300S, my air quality went from 21μg/m3 to 4μg/m3 under 2 hours on Auto mode. The air quality measured is denoted by an indicator light ring on the Core 300S LED screen – blue being the best, while red means it is bad.

Levoit Core 300S seem to be most ideal if you have a open kitchen setup in your house. Placing the Core 300S in my dining space was able to get rid of most of the cooking smell in less than an hour when I set the speed to “Medium”. Apart from daytime use, the “Sleep” mode is especially useful if you plan to use it in your bedroom. The light from the LED display is turned off and there is practically no noise coming from the fan.

Noise

Levoit Core 300S has what it calls their QuietKEAP technology, which makes the fan noise very quiet at the “Low” fan speed. At “Medium” fan speed, the noise is slightly audible in a small room, but not distracting. At “High” fan speed, the fan noise is noticeable can get distracting if your house is generally quite silent.

Maintenance

Maintenance of Levoit Core 300S is quite straightforward. You may have to vacuum off some of the dust trapped on the pre-filter once every few weeks or so. The VeSync app will provide an estimated life of your filter, and once it reaches the end you can purchase a replace from Shopee for S$54.90.

App features

The VeSync app offers simple control features and extra smart functionality of setting schedules and timers. The home screen gives you a quick summary of your air purification as well. You can also turn on Display Lock which prevents anyone from changing any settings via the LED screen.

You can also customise what Auto mode to a particular coverage area. Lastly, you can see a chart that summarises the air quality over a period of time.

How to choose: Mini vs Core 300S vs Core 600S

Choosing between the Mini, Core 300S, and Core 600S ultimately boils down to the area that you wish for air to be purified. The Mini is best used when placed on your desk or at your bedside table, although it can also be used in small-sized room (178ft² / 17m²). Core 300S is suitable for use in a small room (538ft² / 50m²), while the Core 600S is more suited in a larger space (1588ft² / 147m²) like the living area.

Mini vs Core 300S

Apart from its size, one key difference between the Mini and the Core 300S is that the latter is a smart air purifier so you can use the VeSync app for controls and also monitor air quality metrics. If you have a smart home then you can add the Core 300S to Google Home or Alexa.

The Mini is more simple, giving you just three different fan speeds but has the ability to add aromatherapy to the air output. Core 300S on the other hand, offers additional “Auto” mode and “Sleep” mode, but lacks the aromatherapy option.

Core 300S has AirSight Plus technology so it can provide real-time updates on the air quality of your room. Core 300S also has a more powerful air purification system as it uses a H13 True HEPA filter vs the Personal HEPA filter on the Mini.

Core 300S vs Core 600S

Core 300S and Core 600S are very similar in terms of features – both are smart, have AirSight Plus and Vortex Air technology, and utilises H13 True HEPA filter. Both also have “Auto” and “Sleep” mode, but the Core 600S has four fan speeds, one more of 300S’ three fan speeds.

The LED screen on the Core 600S displays the PM2.5 particulates whereas the Core 300S doesn’t (you have to check in the VeSync app). Apart from that, the on-screen controls are largely the same. The main consideration choosing between the Core 300S and Core 600S would be the size of the air purifier (cylindrical vs cubical) and the space which you are planning to put it at. Being the larger machine, the Core 600S has a higher CADR and can purify air in a larger space.
