Unboxing

In the box, you just the following items

  • XTAR MX4 Charger
  • USB-A to USB-C cable
  • User manual

Build quality

XTAR MX4 is constructed from plastic but the overall build quality still feels good. Spring enclosure keeping the battery in place has good tension and slides smoothly along its track.

Usage

When charging, the two compartments on the outside will charge at 1.0A while the other two on the inside bays will charge at 0.5A. But if all 4 compartments are used for charging then each battery only gets 0.5A. This means the XTAR MX4 is not a fast charger.

There is a physical switch to change from Lithium ion 3.77V to LFP mode, but I am unable to test the charging due to lack of equipment. As there is no screen, you’d have to rely on the LED indicators of the XTAR MX4. Red is charging and green is finished. If you are charing LFP batteries then the charging indication is orange instead of red.

Conclusion

Overall, the XTAR MX4 is easy to use and reliable. The size is quite compact for a four bay charger, and is versatile in its compatibility. It is a simple charger that does its job and doesn’t have anything else too fancy. There is no screen so if you are a stat nerd, you might have to top up for a more premium one. But at US$13.90, I think the XTAR MX4 is well priced for what it offers.
