Review: Satechi Trio Wireless Charging Pad

Remember the AirPower that Apple announced but later killed the project? Well, Satechi has something similar. The Satechi Trio Wireless Charging Pad allows you to charge all three of your Apple iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch on the same charging pad. But each device has its own dedicated charging spot. Still, it’s a pretty cool charging pad. The Satechi Trio Wireless Charging Pad retails for S$167.50.

Design and build quality

The design of Satechi Trio Wireless Charging Pad looks reminiscent of Apple’s Magic Trackpad 2, and it looks beautiful. The matte black top and the space grey sides brings out a premium, modern and classy look. The surface seems to be made from plastic with the sides having a metallic finish.

There is a mild Satechi branding on the surface as well, which doesn’t stand out obvious unless the light hits it at a correct angle. I’m not sure if it is possible, but if the white Apple Watch charging puck was a matter black colour it would have made the overall charging pad look really clean.

Build quality is very good too. The Satechi Trio Wireless Charging Pad has some heft to it and the four rubber feet on the base keeps the charging pad steady on the table. Once you set it on your desk, it will take quite some effort to move it out of place. There is minimal flex on the charging pad – it feels sturdy, rigid, and very well made.

On the back, you have a single USC-C port which powers the charging pad. It’s nice that Satechi included a 24W PD adapter in the packaging so you do not have to purchase one separately.

Charging and usage

Charging for each device is done on their dedicated areas. On the charging surface, you can see the dedicated charging areas of each device.

The Apple Watch area has a white charging puck on the left, the AirPods area has a recessed spot in the middle, while the iPhone area has a non-slip circular stamp on the right. The speeds of charging are also capped at Apple’s wireless charging speeds for each device – iPhone @ 7.5W, AirPods @ Max 5W, Apple Watch @ Max 2.5W.

There are 3 LED indicators which light up to signal when it is charging. The brightness of the LED is just right – it is not too bright such that it is distracting, instead it is subtle and observable enough to check on the charging status.

You can your phone through cases up to 5mm thick. Do note that your phone cannot be charged metal cases or sleeves with credit cards. And when it comes to safety features, the Satechi Trio is able to automatically detect foreign objects that is not meant to be charged and cuts off power if needed.

Apple Watch area

You can charge your Apple Watch in two ways(1) lying down flat or (2) in Nightstand mode. The white charging puck can be lifted from its flat orientation to up to 90 degrees. The hinge on the charging puck has a nice rigidity to it so you can set the angle you desire.

There is also a small anti-slip rubber to rest Apple Watch sides so that it won’t slip when charging in Nightstand mode.

AirPods / AirPods Pro area

The ‘AirPods’ area has a recessed space which fits the AirPods and the AirPods Pro case comfortably so that it does not move about.

If you use other brands of earbuds, it should still be able to charge assuming the case is not too long for the recessed space. I tried charging my Huawei FreeBuds Pro and Urbanista London in the space and it fits pretty well too and was able to charge.

iPhone area

The charging area for the iPhone looks to have enough room to charge even the largest of iPhone. I would believe that charging an iPhone 12 Pro Max will mean that the phone will be right next to your AirPods case. There is an anti-slip circular stamp in the center of the iPhone charging area which helps you visually to place your iPhone down accurately, and also keeping the phone still on the charging pad.

Conclusion

If you already own an Apple Watch, AirPods, and iPhone, the Satechi Trio Wireless Charging Pad is the great companion for all your devices. It becomes a convenient one-stop hub to leave all your devices there and charge it overnight, so when you wake up, you can grab all three of them fully charged.

This charger is meant for Apple users who really cares about the aesthetic. And if you do, then the design of the Satechi Trio Wireless Charging Pad which exudes the Apple premium design will look right at home on your desk. The Satechi Trio Wireless Charging Pad is available to purchase on Amazon Singapore for S$167.50.
