Review: Ugreen Nexode 200W Desktop Charger – 6-port GaN

In a world where we have more and more devices, having a reliable and efficient charging solution is essential. The Ugreen Nexode 200W Desktop Charger is a high-powered, 6-port charger designed to meet all your charging needs in a single unit. The Ugreen Nexode 200W Desktop Charger retails for S$199.

Design and build quality

The Ugreen Nexode 200W desktop charger has the usual Ugreen two-tone space grey and black design, which presents a clean and minimal design that blends well with any décor. The charger is made of high-quality plastic, and packed in compact square form factor. The charger measures just 101 * 101 * 32.3mm, making it easy and unassuming when placed on my surface. The base of the charger has 4 rubber feet to keep it from moving about.

The reason why the Ugreen Nexode 200W desktop charger can be so small is because it uses GaN (Gallium Nitride) internals, which allow it be smaller that regular chargers. The Ugreen Nexode 200W desktop charger is designed to be a charging hub, so the plug does not come attached to the charger itself. Instead, the box includes a nicely designed power cable, along with a a 1.0m long nylon braided USB-C cable.

Ports selection

The Ugreen Nexode 200W desktop charger has a total of six ports that allow you to charge multiple devices at once. There are four USB-C ports and two USB-A ports. Despite the “200W” in its name, the charger does not deliver 200W at once. Instead, two of the USB-C PD ports can deliver up to 100W of power, while any of the two USB-A ports can deliver up to 22.5W of power.

As usual, if you use all 6 ports for charging, then don’t expect the USB-C PD ports to provide 100W of charging. The maximum number of ports you can use while still getting 100W of power is two ports.

You can refer to the below image for a quick summary of the multiple permutation of your charging outputs:

From the above image, you can already tell that the best part of the Ugreen Nexode 200W desktop charger is its ability to charge two 100W devices simultaneously. It may not be enough to charge the 16-inch MacBook Pro, but it can certainly charge two 14-inch MacBook Pros at its full capacity.

Performance and safety

The detachable cable of the Ugreen Nexode 200W desktop charger offers much more flexibility when it comes to its use. If you’re someone who uses multiple devices (say two laptops, an iPad, and an iPhone), using the Ugreen Nexode 200W desktop charger as a central charging station could be a better alternative than having all your devices connected to a extension surge protector. When charging two MacBooks at 100W each, the Ugreen Nexode 200W desktop charger felt warm but never uncomfortably hot to the touch.

The Ugreen Nexode 200W desktop charger’s GaN II hybrid power technology increases charging efficiency and reduces heat generation, which helps prevent overheating. The charger also includes multiple safety features, including overvoltage protection, overcurrent protection, and overheat protection, ensuring that your devices are safe while charging.

Conclusion

Overall, the Ugreen Nexode 200W desktop charger is an excellent choice for anyone who uses a lot of USB powered devices. Unlike the Ugreen Nexode 140W GaN Charger, the Ugreen Nexode 200W desktop charger is designed to be used as a charging station. It also caps out at 100W, but is able to charge two devices at 100W each. At S$199, it is offers a unique solution for laptop and tablet heavy users and also offers some portability if you don’t mind the weight of it when travelling.
