Review: Ugreen 65W DigiNest Cube Charging Station

If your desk is currently cluttered by a large surge protector with multiple cables, the new Ugreen 65W DigiNest Cube Charging Station provides a versatile and efficient solution to charge multiple devices at the same time. Its compact design and fast-charging capabilities makes it a reliable and convenient source for all types of devices, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, and more. The Ugreen 65W DigiNest Cube Charging Station retails for S$99.

Design and build quality

The Ugreen 65W DigiNest Cube has a rounded edges wrapped compact cube design that makes it easy to carry around and fit into small spaces. The charger is made with high-quality plastic that give it a durable and sturdy feel to it. There are two strips of rubber feet to keep the Ugreen 65W DigiNest Cube secure on whatever surface you place it on.

Despite being a 7-in-1 charging station, the Ugreen 65W DigiNest Cube still manages to retain a small form factor due to the use of GaN (Gallium Nitride) internals. The 1.8-metre cable that comes attached to the Ugreen 65W DigiNest Cube is thick and feels heavy duty. I also like the flat style design of the UK plug.

Ugreen 65W DigiNest Cube Charging Station

The Ugreen 65W DigiNest Cube weighs about 450g which is heavier than your traditional surge protector. It could be an alternative to bring when travelling overseas as the port selection (elaborated later) make it convenient for charging phones and tablets.

Ports selection

What makes the small Ugreen 65W DigiNest Cube great is its port selection. Ugreen 65W DigiNest Cube features three AC outlets and four USB ports that are arranged strategically so that the cables all face away from you. The port selection makes the Ugreen 65W DigiNest Cube a versatile charging station that can power a variety of devices from a vacuum cleaner to your tablet. This makes it a great addition to any desk setup where you will likely power your monitor and speakers via the AC outlets, and perhaps charge your laptop and phone from the four USB ports.

You can refer to the below image for a quick summary of the multiple permutation of charging outputs:

From my quick testing with multiple devices, I am able to get close to the promised charging speeds in the picture above, such as 65W fast charging of my MacBook Air.

Performance and safety

Apart from the good port selections, the Ugreen 65W DigiNest Cube also features a power switch at the back where the power cord resides. This makes it easy to turn off the power to all devices instead of reaching the main AC outlet.

The Ugreen 65W DigiNest Cube is equipped built-in safety mechanisms to protect devices from overcharging, overheating, and short-circuiting. When charging three devices simultaneously, the Ugreen 65W DigiNest Cube did feel warm but it was not at a temperature that was raised any concern.

Conclusion

The Ugreen 65W DigiNest Cube offers a unique form factor when charging a variety of devices at the same time. Surge protectors are usually hidden from sight but the Ugreen 65W DigiNest Cube is actually one that encourages you to place on your desk to conveniently access the four other USB ports for charging. And having a small and compact form factor makes it even more versatile in its use cases.
