Review: Tile Pro – Bluetooth Location Tracker

The Tile Pro is Tile’s strongest tracker yet in its lineup of 4 trackers. The Tile Pro retails for S$49.90, which you can purchase at Synced for the fastest delivery and support.

Build quality and design

The Tile Pro sports a different look from what made Tile popular – a squarish tile-like design. Instead the Tile Pro is elongated with a rectangular shape (58mm * 31mm * 7.5mm), and still has a hole for you to loop into things easily. The design has slightly rounded edges for a better hand feel and look. Tile Pro is available in both black or white colour options.

The Tile Pro has a metal frame sandwiched by two matte plastic surfaces. Build quality is pretty good, but I found that the matte plastic pick up scratches quite easily, so if don’t expect the Tile Pro to stay pretty if it is located on objects prone to knocks. Tile says the Tile Pro is IP67 water resistant, which means it’s all good if you accidentally drop it into a 1-meter pool (as long it doesn’t stay for more than 30 minutes).

Main features

Tile Pro is used mainly to track the location of your items such as a bag. The design of the Tile Pro makes it suitable to be attached on bags, bottles, keys. It is bigger than the the regular Tile Mate, so some applications may make the Tile Pro feel oversized in context.

Comparing the Tile Pro and the Mate, the Tile Pro is superior in every feature except for a compact size. It has the loudest ring and furthest range, along with a battery that is replaceable albeit a shorter lifespan.

In the long run, the Tile Pro can be a cheaper product as you do not have to replace the Mate with a brand new one. Also, the metal frame on the Tile Pro also makes a more durable product which can be used in more use cases.

Reverse tracking

Despite looking like a simple device, the Tile Pro has a button on it which you can double press to reverse track your phone’s location. If your phone is in range, it will ring so you can simply follow the sound to locate your phone.

QR code for lost and found

One useful feature of the Tile Pro is the ability to reverse tracking, where a good samaritan can scan the QR code located on the back of the Tile Pro to receive your contact information so he/she can return the item back to you.

App features

As Tile was acquired by Life360, you can also add the Tiles you have into the Life360 app. Either way, the main app you’ll use is the Tile app.

The app is straightforward to use, and the location updates were accurate. However, it seems like you’d have to pay for Tile Premium to truly get the best out of the Tile Pro such as features like Smart Alert (where you’ll get notifications if you leave an item behind), and 30-Day location history to name a few.

Conclusion

For those not on iPhone where AirTags is likely the most straightforward purchase when it comes to location trackers, the Tile Pro is a great option as it presents a large enough user base in Singapore for accurate and real-time location of the Tile. At S$49,90, the Tile Pro is pricier than mainstream competitors, but still places itself as a great option for more rugged use case due to its metal frame but do note that plastic parts will probably wear out fast. Its replaceable battery also helps with its longevity as well.
