Design and build quality

Unlike regular wireless charging stand’s typical rectangular support, Moshi has opted for a circular base and a circular charging pad. The base of the Moshi Lounge Q is made of aluminium, which helps gives much of its 280g weight. The round charging pad is able to slide up and down the stainless steel rail on the base. Build quality is top notch as the charging stand feels sturdy and solid, with a nice amount of heft to it.

Both surfaces of the base and charging pad are covered by a premium looking grey fabric. And there is also non-slip rubber along the rim of the base and the surface of the charging pad to prevent slipping. As for the cable, it is integrated as part of the wireless charger and the base has a small insert to keep the wire locked tidy in place. I really like the clean and minimal design of the Lounge Q.

The cable is USB-C so do make sure you own a USB-C charging adapter as Moshi does not supply one. I highly recommend the UGreen 18W PD fast charger if you’re on a budget.

Charging

Lounge Q has engineered to make their Q-coil (ie. charging pad) adjustable. One of the problems with charging stands was that charging pad would not be centered if you switch from vertical to a horizontal viewing angle. Also, having a static placement of the Q-coil meant that smaller or larger phones might not be be compatible. Hence, Moshi has designed the Lounge Q with an adjustable rail system so that you can position the charger to accommodate any device size.

Also, Moshi’s proprietary Q-coil module allows you to charge your phone through cases up to 5mm thick. And as with all high quality wireless chargers, the Moshi Lounge Q has foreign object detection and overheating protection, like what you’ll find on the Spigen F309W as well. When charging, the LED at the side of the charger lights up.

The fact that the charging pad is movable up and down allows you to even charge your phone in landscape mode. I guess that can be helpful if you’re charging and watching videos at the same time. Check out the two videos below for charging demonstration:

Fast charging

To enjoy the fast charging capabilities of the Moshi Lounge Q, you will need a USB-C wall charger that is able to provide 9V of input. The old 5W power adapter will not cut it. As aforementioned, I recommend getting the UGreen 18W PD fast charger. The Lounge Q charged my iPhone 11 from 5% to 50% in about an hour half. Do note that Apple devices are capped at 7.5W so I am unfortunately unable to make use of the 15W output. However, having the option for 15W of wireless charging output future proofs you for phones that allow for a larger wireless charging input.

10-Year global warranty

I noticed that when I was not using the Lounge Q charger, I can hear a light ticking sound coming from the charger. I checked with Moshi and they ensured that the ticking sound is normal due to the EPP (Extended Power Profile) architecture they have used for fast charging capabilities. If you do hear a ticking sound on your unit, be rest assured that this is normal behaviour.

However, if you are concerned about any issues coming from the Lounge Q charger, you do not really have to as Moshi offers an incredible 10-year global warranty after you register your product. You can feel safe that any defects is covered by warranty. Even if you do not register, all Moshi products are covered by a 2-year global warranty by default, with valid proof of purchase.

Conclusion

The Moshi Lounge Q gets the basics of a good wireless charger right, and is packaged in a well-built and premium designed wireless charger. It really looks so good on my desk it can pass off as a design piece than a portable charger. At S$125, it is expensive but the simple yet innovative idea of a movable charging pad provides lots of flexibility and versatility to your usage. Moreover, all Moshi products have a 10-year global warranty, a testament to their product quality.

Where to buy

It seems like you can’t purchase the Lounge Q directly from Moshi’s website. However, you can purchase the Lounge Q from Moshi’s official Lazada shop.
